Tunnel Segments for the Boßlertunnel
As part of the major infrastructure project “Stuttgart 21” and the new Wendlingen–Ulm railway line of Deutsche Bahn, the Boßlertunnel is being constructed. The “Albaufstieg” section represents a central part of the approximately 60 km long new railway line from Wendlingen to Ulm. Between its starting point near Stuttgart and its destination in Ulm, the route runs from northwest to southeast, crossing the entire Swabian Alb mountain range. The key elements of this section are the twin-tube Boßlertunnel and the twin-tube Steinbühltunnel. The Boßlertunnel itself will have a total length of 8,806 meters.
The contract for producing the tunnel lining segments was awarded to the consortium ARGE PTS Boßlertunnel (PTS = precast tunnel segments), formed by MABA and Porr. In close proximity to the tunnel in Aichelberg, the consortium built a temporary production facility. At this site, rebar cages supplied by SOTRALENTZ CONSTRUCTION were processed with concrete to form tunnel lining segments.
Between October 2017 and March 2018, SOTRALENTZ CONSTRUCTION delivered approximately 900 tons of tunnel segments for the Boßlertunnel. Around 40 rings per week were produced at the company’s Drulingen plant. These prefabricated concrete elements enabled faster and safer progress for the mechanized tunnel boring process. After completion of the Boßlertunnel, the production site will be completely dismantled and the area will be renaturalized.
