Customised reinforcement for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)
With over 76 million passengers a year, Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport is the largest airport in France and the second largest in Europe after London Heathrow. The international hub northeast of Paris is constantly being expanded and modernised, from aircraft hangars and parking spaces to runways and terminals. With over 600 companies and around 75,500 employees, CDG Airport is Air France’s international hub and one of the most important economic centres in the Île-de-France region.
The reinforcement specialists at SOTRALENTZ CONSTRUCTION have now been awarded the contract to supply a major civil engineering project in the cargo area. The parking spaces and runways on the 3,500-hectare airport site have to withstand the tonne loads of thousands of aircraft every day. The quality of the reinforcement is a decisive factor for the stability and durability of the concrete surfaces. SOTRALENTZ is supplying reinforcement elements for the construction of an aircraft parking area for the cargo airline FedEx Express, consisting of 140,000 500 mm dowels with a diameter of 30 mm, pre-assembled and ready for installation on a total of 27,000 m of dowel cages. These will be used to create around 70,000 square metres of parking and traffic areas in three construction phases by spring 2021. The SÜLZLE Group says ‘Chapeau’ and congratulates its French colleagues on winning this prestigious contract.
