Tunnel voussoirs for the Super Metro around Paris
The “Grand Paris Express” is one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects. Around Paris, a completely new metro network is being created with approximately 200 kilometers of tunnels, six automated lines, and nearly 70 underground stations. The project’s aim is to connect Greater Paris more closely with the residential, work, and economic areas of the Île-de-France region, and to promote sustainable transport development. Full operation is scheduled for 2031.
SOTRALENTZ CONSTRUCTION has contributed to this undertaking with several major contracts. From 2017 to 2024, the company supplied several tens of thousands of tons of welded wire mesh assembly, which were used in the mechanized tunneling of lines 14 South, 15 South, 16, and 18. The precisely pre-fabricated concrete and reinforcement elements ensure rapid, high-quality, and safe construction.
Line 15 South alone stretches for 33 kilometers and connects 16 stations from Pont de Sèvres to Noisy-Champs. It passes through 22 municipalities and serves an area of over one million residents. Around 17,000 tons of tunnel voussoirs were produced for this section. The initial acceptance of the first tunnel voussoirs took place in March 2018 at the Aubergenville plant west of Paris.
Further partial projects included lines 14 South and 16, for which a total of about 45,000 tons of tunnel voussoirs were delivered by the end of 2020. The follow-up contract for line 16 alone comprised 16,000 tons of tunnel voussoirs. From 2024, SOTRALENTZ CONSTRUCTION also took on the delivery of around 500 tons of tunnel voussoirs for line 18 (Lot 3) to the customer STRADAL. This line connects the business locations Orly, Antony, Massy, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and Versailles.
SOTRALENTZ CONSTRUCTION’s involvement in the Grand Paris Express stands for many years of experience and outstanding manufacturing competence in tunnel construction—from planning and production to on-site quality assurance.
